I have become a semi-regular contributor to the monthly "Game Design Showdown" at the Board Game Design Forum. The challenge of the Showdown is to create and describe a game that fits within a certain set of theme and/or mechanic specifications. Contestants have a week to design their entries, and they have an 800 word limit to describe the rules. They contributors then have a week to read the other entries and cast votes for each others' entries. I still have yet to win a Showdown, but my games have received some positive criticism. Check out my recent entries.

Clandestine Freedom Movement
A small country's first democratic presidential election was "won" by the current unpopular military dictator. The people are restless, claiming the election was a fraud. The dictator has responded by clamping down on communications and squashing resistance. The people are desperate to let the whole world know about the injustices, so they have organized a system to pass a message out of the country. Will they successfully invite the intervention of other world leaders? Or will the dictator's military police stop their attempt?
